The Literacy Leadership Initiative (LLI) is a project that develops the level of literacy expertise and capacity in school or district professionals. Working intensively with a VRI at UVM consultant, teachers, literacy coordinators, reading specialists, Title 1 or special education staff, principals, and curriculum coordinators benefit from the situated professional development this project offers, as well as networking with others in similar roles.

Participants in LLI receive support for their existing or emerging roles as literacy leaders, are linked to other literacy leaders across the state, and are provided with updates regarding current research, initiatives, issues, and opportunities. Literacy leaders have access to online networking through the LLI list-serve, have access to a comprehensive LLI resource archive, and can attend four statewide professional development workshops. LLI participants also receive site-support visits that are uniquely tailored to meet individual or school/district needs.

There are three LLI models:

Model A

Individual membership. Each member receives two half day site support visits.

Model B
Group membership, with up to two site support visits for each individual. Some of the site support visits can be combined for school or district collaboration.

Model C
Project Focus. A school or district sets a particular goal they would like to achieve within a given time frame (e.g., 4- 8 days). The LLI consultants work to help them achieve the project or task. Model C projects need to have at least two individual members sign up for Model A as well.
